-- Bertrand Russell

awesome costumes this morning at both 6 and 7 am... apparently the key to lifting really heavy stuff is as simple as wearing a cape- the wizard magic sure worked for Audrey this mornign!- congrats to both Jo and Audrey for breaking 200! So exciting to see cfb women hitting the big numbers.

And also happy birthday to Marlies!!!

Awesome job to Jo and Audrey who both hit the 200 pound mark! It was fun working out in costumes this morning! Had a huge mental block and the backsquats and didnt get past 130. Managed to get 3rnds, 5DB squat cleans, 7 30"box jumps and 8 pullups in the 6min AMRAP this morning.

Anyone checked this out yet? http://crossfitboston.squarespace.com/home/2009/10/29/103009.html#comments

I feel like most people in the gym could pass at least one (if not many) of these tests!

Wow, so that's what I look like when lifting....hmmmm

205# on the back squat; pr by 13#, was pretty psyched. Thanks to Rebecca and Nicollette for being tolerant and supportive lifting partners; and to Tom and his mustache for providing mildly inappropriate comic relief.

Props to Audrey, too, apparently the women weren't messing around this morning. Nice to get some big numbers up on the board.

Jo was a rockstar this morning...Definitely worth skipping the AMRAP to see you pass that milestone. And Audrey, you did the Hermione costume proud by crossing the 200 lb. mark--wish I was there to see it!

Jo that's badasse

Yes, (responding to Neal's Q of the Day) my friends do consider Crossfit eccentric. That's because they have lost sight of what fitness is, IMO. When I explain Crossfit to anyone who has served in the military or who is old enough to remember the time before Nautilus, they get it. My 75 year old father-in-law gets it and so does my 61 year old father because they've never been in a gym. I don't try to convince my friends anymore to do Crossfit because either they get it intrinsically or they don't.

Jo and Audrey -
WOW - I am so impressed! Thanks for the continued inspiration. Congrats.

October 30, 2009 | Unregistered Commenterlinda

Kick ass! Jo, Audrey, you both rock!

290 on the back squat 5lb PR getting scary close to the 300 club.

3 full rounds and 3 cleans with 50# DB on the 6 minutes of MetCon still 10# off 30%, maybe I should try to lose some weight. :P

Don't mess with Jo.

Met a fitness instructor last week who rolled her eyes when I mentioned Crossfit. Says everybody has been incorporating that methodology for years but Crossfit just gave it a name. Who knew?
Then she rolled her eyes when I mentioned the Paleo diet.

I dreamed of CFB last night - in which I showed up for a running WOD in skateboarding shoes that kept falling off so Raf gave me new shoelaces which I couldn't lace properly.
So, now CFB has become a Freudian substitute for my feelings of performance anxiety and being unprepared.

Great.

In response to Neal's question:

I have very few friends left that aren't in the CF world. However, my family, even my cfing mom, thinks i'm nuts. Having jumped on the paleo/primal bandwagon with full force, the amount of saturated fat that i have in my house is appalling/devastating to my aunt, a nurse practitioner. She thinks i'm killing myself one coconut flour muffin at a time.

Epic before photo. I'm a walking billboard for why I believe CF is the "best" path for fitness. If people look at me and don't think i'm onto something, then nothing i say can change that. When they're ready, I'm more than happy to give them my crossfit elevator pitch.

Marlies: Hartelijk gefeliciteerd met je verjaardag!

It's been said many times many ways, Jo is total badass. Even before she was squatting well more than I weigh.

Yes, many folks have questioned my sanity/eccentricity since I started doing CF (and before too but that's for another post).

Then again wearing tape on your hands as an accessory too many days a week and explaining people that you wake up at 530 to go put yourself through the ringer will elicit those kind of responses. (The thing that really freaks people out is being at random house parties and total strangers look at your hands and say "Crossfit?")

I try to make it really easy explaining it to people: I'm in the best shape of my life and if it's good enough of a workout for the toughest Marines I know... maybe... just maybe... it will be as or more rigorous than your Globo gym. I try to work in a line about the community bringing people along of all levels ("It's not just me that's cuckoo it's all of my friends too!". What's the great quote that was probably posted here just the other week "If you want to go fast go alone, if you want to go far go together?" In short "I never thought I could be strong, CF proved me wrong"

I've been at Crossfit Boston for a number of years, a little less time than Jo...so I'm always happy to see more & more women signing up and actually showing up to Crossfit Boston & getting these amazing PRs. Jo - CONGRATS!!! Audrey - Nice Job!!!! I think the spell Rebecca put on you prior to leaving worked!

Tom - I did both 6am & 7am...by the way, hang onto the moustache!

October 30, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterJessy

nice job, renee!

anyone who is in the JP area at 11 tonight and looking for something to do (wow, that sounds like the beginning of a Dateline NBC episode, anyhoo...), my brother's band The Battleships is playing a set at the Midway Cafe dressed as (and hopefully sounding like) Led Zeppelin.

Tequila shot to any CFBers who make it.

Kudos to Jo for hitting 205. Thanks to Rebecca for the loan of the HP dress, cape and glasses. They just made the workout more fun. BTW, not to be a complete HP geek, I realized the "spell" I did for Rebecca was the unlocking spell (alohamora, maybe it unlocked her squat?) and not the levitation spell (wingardium leviosa). It hit me halfway through my own workout. Still, I'm psyched to have hit the 200 lb. mark for the back squat. Thanks to all for the encouragement and support.

Lastly, PEAK, phone home...

Congrats to Jo and Audrey for the big PRs. It's a testament to your hard work that eventually you squat a small truck.

Being away for a conference and then getting sick means I end up missing all the fun :(

This comment is in to the reference Mike G. made earlier this week pertaining to this video:

This kid scares the crap out of me! This better not be an impression of what Neal's kid will be like...especially when he is on top of the table flexing! Thanks Mike G...but I agree with Thor, this will be your little "baby Gap" whenever he arrives. Neal & I will help you mold him!
